The following information is released as an update on the Ebola virus disease outbreak.
Senegal
Senegal has confirmed a case of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Dakar on the 29 August 2014. A 21 year old Guinean man travelled by road to Dakar and arrived on the 20 August 2014.
Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has confirmed Ebola virus disease in Equateur Province in the Jera area (close to Boende town), more than 1200 kilometres north-east of the Kinshasa.
Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria
As at 26 August 2014, a cumulative total of 3 069 EVD cases (laboratory-confirmed, probable, and suspected) including 1 552 deaths with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 51% have been reported in the current EVD outbreak in West Africa.
Status of EVD outbreak in West Africa (Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone) as at 26 August 2014:
- Guinea reported 648 cases (482 confirmed, 141 probable, 25 suspected) with 430 deaths (CFR: 66%)
- Liberia reported 1378 cases (322 confirmed, 674 probable, 382 suspected) with 694 deaths (CFR: 50%)
- Sierra Leone reported 1026 cases (935 confirmed, 37 probable, 54 suspected) with 422 deaths (CFR: 41%)
